And when discussing and making arrangements, my friend mentioned that should the ladies be able to – that we add in an extra gift to donate to Rock-a-Bye-House in Kuils River.
Now me having
lived in the Northern Suburbs for years…(!) – was not aware of this home. Not even
that such a home existed in our area. I wanted to know more… and so a week or 2
after the baby shower (and about a week before baby was due!); together with
this expectant mommy and 2 more friends we visited this home to gift them with
the items we had. And ..what an eye opener.
My heart has
not felt as warm as it did that day in a long time…the sounds and sights of
babies everywhere.
The home accommodates
10 babies at a time, from new-born, and when I say new-born; sometimes it’s
even babies of a few days old – to about a year, after which babies are taken
for foster care or adoption; or cared for at homes relevant to their age.
We arrived
just as it was nearly bath time, and with 4 extra aunties there, the babies
loved the conversation and extra attention! The needs of the home is constant,
as hospitals on a ongoing basis feeds the home with new babies. Individuals may
volunteer their time to the home by making contact with the home directly, and
even make donations.
If you would
like to in anyway assist this worthy cause – have a look at their Facebook
page; they are really doing great work.
When it was
time to greet and say goodbye, it was like my heart was left there. The staff
at Rock-a-Bye-House is doing such a sterling job – and I salute you ladies.
The experience...was amazing. I was exposed to this merely because of an initiative, and heart of care from a friend.
Every baby..every child..is a gift out of the hand of God.
Definitely an
experience that will stay with me for days to come…
