“It's the action, not the fruit of the
action, that's important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your
power, may not be in your time, that there'll be any fruit. But that doesn't
mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from
your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
Good morning
everyone, it’s mid-week!
Today’s post
won’t be too long I think.…(let’s see!) – and in all honesty, I had no idea
what I was going to share today. but this morning I was really touched by a ‘feel
good story’ that I heard on the radio as I was driving to work.
A favourite
radio station of mine, Heart 104.9fm
http://www.1049.fm/ has embarked on a ’16 Days for Youth Campaign’; whereby all the shows are
broadcasted live from different towns in and around the city. Meaning, the crew
packs up and moves around to areas such as Darling, Swellendam, Vredenburg –
and today they are broadcasting from Paarl. The crew gets involved with youth
focused projects in uplifting the community at hand.
So I’m
normally in my car from 06h00 till just after 07h00; and in this journey I was blessed
to hear the story of aunty Magda. And her story was just absolutely ‘wow’ to
me. She spoke about how on every Wednesday – a project runs at this hall where
they are at (‘Groendakkies’), whereby mommies bring their babies and both are
able to have a bath/shower followed by a warm meal. Babies with no clothes, are
sponsored clothes to wear - however,
when it no longer fits, mommies bring it back and it can be used to clothe
another baby.
Aunty Magda,
whom serves as a mother figure to most
of the children in the area, says that this initiative was born from the Soup
Kitchen she normally held at the hall. She noticed that the kiddies weren’t
always decently and warmly clothed; or clean. Sy noem ook dat die pappies wat meestal wingerd werkers is, in die
winter nie baie werk het nie, saam met die mammies kom – en ook deel in die
maaltyd wat gegee word.
She adds that
the hall sometimes becomes so full that they see to the group inside, need to
empty it – and then accommodate the next group of moms and children. To her it
is important to feed, -and in this way add value to the community. You may not
see the difference you are making now – but down the line, your contribution in
the lives of these people, is priceless.
This story
touched my heart. And I thought to myself – these are things I’d like to be
part of. And even if not in the same context; that’s what my heart longs to do:
to make a difference. To add value.
I’m not
totally sure in which way God is steering me and wanting me to be and serve just
yet…but He sure does have a sense of humour. I’ll share at a later stage – but let’s
just say that, I’ve been offered such an opportunity just moments ago. I sat at
my desk, read the email – and just smiled. And although it’s an official work
request; my spirit knows otherwise.
Don’t stop
doing good.
I know that
our lives and days get so busy that we don't have time to do big things - but
the beauty of it is, it's in the small thought we give to doing good.
Even when
people don’t seem to appreciate your efforts – ensure that your heart attitude is
right.
Add value.
Make a difference.
Blessings,
xx
