What defines you?

I’ve been having interesting connecting moments with my cousin. And you need to understand our relationship – we grew up together; did everything together; wore the same clothes; got the same Christmas and Birthday gifts…haha…yes – that’s to us!

In many ways we have always been very opposite – yet we had so much love for one another!

Travelling changes your life: Namibia

Where do I begin!! I initially thought that I’d be able to blog while on holiday – but alas! – LOL; there was just no time; and the time that I did have, I spent relaxing.

To my friend Candice for inviting me on this trip with her – THANKYOU! I didn’t hesitate at all when she raised the idea; I was looking forward to visiting a place – a neighbouring country that I’ve never seen. And just as you might have it in your mind when you think of Namibia… be assured; it’s exactly like that!

Namibia on the cards!

If there was probably one thing I'm grateful to my parents for, is that they have exposed me to travelling from an early age. And today, because of that - I think it's safe to say that the travel bug bit me!
I believe you should always try new things, meet new people, see new places. Sometimes we are so set in our ways, and have become so comfortable in our own space - that something new either frightens us - because it's unknown; or we choose to limit ourselves. Yes we do.

UNLTD – Music in the key of Jazz

“If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.”

― Albert Einstein
Simply 3 days away… an event not to be missed! And I’m not just saying this because the members of the band is literally family to me– but because music in its entirety will be displayed on a stage of excellence. If you’re in need of an event that will tickle all your senses, Kleinvlei Methodist Church is the place to be on Saturday, 25 June 2016 at 19h00.

I`ve been quiet...I know! But with it being a short week and prepping for my birthday _ it was just a madhouse! In a good way! I have had the privilege of celebrating my 32nd birthday 2 days ago...and was again in the silence just...happy. content.

Making a difference

“It's the action, not the fruit of the action, that's important. You have to do the right thing. It may not be in your power, may not be in your time, that there'll be any fruit. But that doesn't mean you stop doing the right thing. You may never know what results come from your action. But if you do nothing, there will be no result.”

Building blocks

I attended high school in the Northern suburbs a good few years ago; and as per the usual routine – most Monday’s were assembly. I enjoyed assembly; and not only because it meant that generally Monday class periods were shorter J, but also because of visitors we would get to listen to as speakers during the mornings. However, there was one particular sir – who whenever it was his turn to do the weekly devotions, he would often ..almost always..speak about one thing. The bricks of the school hall.

Even salt looks like sugar

Nothing beats that first cup of coffee in the morning. Today, I’m feeling like I’m literally in my own bubble, not as upbeat as other days – just needing to be in my own space. And I allow myself to have such days; - believe me, it’s needed. I’ve had 2 very unique encounters yesterday – one very brief one and the other became a discussion of very much the same topic. It was too much to type up last night – I was just too tired; but feel I need to share this. And although from my perspective and my opinion, this is just how I feel.

my birthday month..!

Well the day is not over yet! Welcome to the new month...its June!_and this always excites me. This month is verrry eventful with loads of birthdays...and of course; a public holiday! Heehee

Thankful Tuesday

It’s the last day of May…WOW WOW WOW…how time has flown right on by! While driving to work this morning, I was thinking – ok Estelle, so what will you blog about today? LOL… and in that moment I was just amazed at how God has been faithful in always giving me something to write about this past week. I thought about my evening last night…about my past week, about a phone call with a friend yesterday to whom I said “ek is net dankbaar”… (“I am thankful”)

Even Mondays' deserve a chance..

Happy Monday!

Everyone can attest to once in their life when you were happy that you were afforded a second chance...whether it was another shot at attaining your drivers' license...re-writing a test to better a mark, a second chance to just...make right.

Theatre treat to kick off my weekend

And it is the last and final Friday for May 2016 -how this week has flown! My first week of blogging comes to an end; and it’s been invigorating – even for me! So I was thinking that because it’s Friday; I’ll attempt to do a light hearted, something nice, toffee-like-pancake-sweet-treat post on a Friday…I think that’s a spleeendid idea!

Theatre is another BIG love of mine!

And if I think back to my childhood, I was introduced to it by my parents from young. With my family being all musically inclined I was always taken to shows, either as audience member with the family or waiting backstage because my dad was set to perform. My brother and I were taken to experience theatre musicals in itself and I could always see myself being part of such a production.

I’ve realised that as ‘normal’ as this was for me, seeing shows and my exposure to entertainment on this platform was a privilege…that people are not often exposed to. But it’s such another amazing platform that can be used to highlight social issues – or otherwise, like today, just enjoy the art of ballet for relaxation.

My current friendship circle shares this love with me – which makes wanting to share such experiences, so much easier. Whether we make up block bookings to see a musical, a ballet, stand up comedy etc we LOVE IT!

I believe you should always avail yourself to new experiences. My dad always said, and still says “how can you say you don’t like it, if you haven’t even tried it?”

And it’s true. Only now that I’m older, I’m able to throw that line back at him! Heehee J

Artscape Opera House was my location today at 15h30 to see the Cape Town City Ballet portray the well known ‘Coppelia’. I’ve not seen this production before, so was quite excited. It was the final dress rehearsal before the official show scheduled for 19h30…(yes, that’s how it’s done!)

My friends Valda, Sune and little miss Tatum I met up (thank you for arranging the tickets for us, Kim and aunty Nat!), collected our tickets and made our way to our seats.

It was also just great to relax...and sit - to just breathe and soak in the moment.

It was good to be there to experience how the others experienced the moment. About 3 schools I think, was also part of the crowd and I am sure that for many of them..this was a first experience.

The evening ended with supper, some shopping and good conversation at the V&A Waterfront...and now I am happy to be home.

Wishing everyone a splendid weekend; we will connect on Monday!

"Speak life..."

Nothing beats starting the day with a good cup of coffee – even before cereal…coffee just has the ability to let you know, ‘you’re awake’. So yes, there’s life! Life in the chill of the air, life in the sounds I heard when I left home this morning…
We are alive.

School Shoe Project...help warm someone's feet

So this morning was not the best of mornings for me: my body was tired, even though I had an early night. After my day yesterday, I was just happy to get into a warm bed and snuggle up warmly. It has become such routine that I don't think about the fact that I have warm water to enjoy a warm shower, I have blankets...and extra if needed if I'm cold, I have warm pjs to wear, a roof over my head..had something to eat...while others don't.

Rock-A-Bye-Baby House

This year has been a busy one, and it’s hard to believe that we are already approaching June! A close friend of mine recently gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, and as friends do – prior to baby being born, wished to bless her with a baby shower to celebrate this new bundle.
And when discussing and making arrangements, my friend mentioned that should the ladies be able to – that we add in an extra gift to donate to Rock-a-Bye-House in Kuils River.

Food for thought

A final thought for the day..you never know if your greatness lies behind a new closed door..  :-)

When last did you do something for the very first time..?

This question often challenges me. Just think about it...everyday, or most days rather are very monotonous, same routine...nothing changes.
So my response to this question...TODAY...my first day of blogging! :)
